How long have you been practicing law, Pamela?
I’ve been practicing law for over 17 years. I've been focused on helping parents resolve their child custody, divorce and family law issues for over 9 years. In 2010, I decided to focus on helping children get adopted. I bring all my experience to The Family Law Company and we use it to serve our clients effectively.
What makes your services unique?
At The Family Law Company, we take a personal interest in all our cases. We understand the child custody process personally.
When I was a young child my parents separated and I was whisked away from my home in the middle of the night never to return again. As an adult, I went through my own divorce that involved child custody issues concerning my young daughter. These experiences transformed my life and gave me an inside look at the child custody process. I have passed my insight on to The Family Law Company which has used it to help many children and their parents through the child custody process.
The my child custody experience has led me to develop a boutique company that is child centered and helps parents find solutions that make their child’s life better. We provide our clients with personal attention. We call you back, listen to your problems and help you find solutions that will make your life and your child’s life better. This personal attention will help you get better results.
In 2010, I handled a private adoption that took two years to complete. I first met the little girl who got adopted when she was 9 months in utero. This child went home with my clients at birth and is now legally their natural child. Since this child got adopted by a couple who attend the same church I go to, I've gotten to see this little girl grow up. My amazing experience on this case has inspired me to help more children get adopted.

How long does it take to complete the adoption legal process in a private adoption?
This will depend on how quickly everyone can get all the paperwork completed. It will also depend on how quickly the homestudy can be completed. It can take up to two years to complete a private adoption. However, it can take less than two years to finalize the adoption if everyone completes all the paperwork and the homestudy is completed promptly.
How long does it take to get divorced?
It depends on the simplicity or complexity of the case. In California, a divorce can technically be granted six months and one day after your spouse has been served with the divorce petition. However, the actual time it will take to get your divorce judgment signed off by a judge will depend on the court’s caseload.
Typically, in a simple case that settles, a divorce judgment is obtained within 12 months. Many cases resolve within 18 to 24 months. However, there are still many cases that take over 24 months to resolve. These tend to be complex cases with many disputed issues or cases where one party is highly litigious and does not really want to move through the legal process quickly. They may be in denial and not want to get divorced.
